(1816): Der Sandmann. Ditzingen, Germany: Reclam
Abstract: E.T.A.

: Natural Rationality: A Neglected Concept in the Social Sciences
Abstract: When she was about two and a half my daughter made her first acquaintance with a parrot. Although its vocabulary was limited, the parrot could talk. Several times it bade us ’Goodbye’, to be bade &dquo;Goodbye’ ,in turn by our delighted two-year-old.’ Thenceforth, her encounters with parrots have involved cries of ‘Goodbye’,J and puzclement at the lack of response. Only slowly has she abandoned the expectation that parrots just do say ’Goodbye’. ’ ’ It would seem a plausible hypothesis that this expectation was generated by natural rational processes; cognitive propensities possessed by the child made an inductive inference natural and ensured that it happened more or less automatically. I do not recommend induction on the basis of one instance as an ideal form of inference or a model of scientific method, but I do suggest that such an inference can reasonably be held actually to have taken place, accepting, of course, that this claim has the status of an hypothesis rather than an observation. Such hypotheses, which relate to how people actually reason rather than how ideally they should reason, are concerned with natural rationality; they relate to our natural reasoning proclivities or capacities.

(2016): User Experience and Hedonic Quality of Assistive Technology
DOI: https://doi.org/10.18420/MUC2016-WS02-0001 Abstract: This study examined user experience by evaluating the hedonic and pragmatic perception of assistive technology and the relations with need fulfilment and positive affect. This was tested by presenting information about a new advanced driver assistance system to 90 participants. They evaluated the user experience and furthermore reported their purchase intentions. The results confirmed that need fulfilment was associated with positive affect and perceived hedonic quality of the assistive technology. In addition, there were positive relations between purchase intentions and the variables positive affect, need fulfilment, and perceived hedonic or pragmatic quality. These results demonstrate the relevance of need fulfilment and hedonic quality of assistive systems, which could be employed to promote adherence in healthcare contexts.
