(2017): Sources of deviant behavior. Contrasting alternative explanations in the laboratory. In: Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics 71, S. 31-44. DOI: 10.1016/j.socec.2017.07.003
Abstract: We explore the driving factors behind deviant behavior by contrasting three theoretical frameworks: stable preference for deviant behavior, impact from social history on pro-social behaviors, and contingent cooperation with social norms. Subjects in our experiment first play a repeated Trust Game to create social histories in the laboratory, before engaging in a Common Resource Game, to measure deviant behavior. The results suggest that social history is an important determinant. Those who experienced deterioration in the evolution of play were more likely to extract large amounts from the common resource. We also document that anticipated social norms in the Trust Game explain extraction in the Common Resource Game, independently from the observed outcomes and the anticipated norms of deviance. This suggests an under-adjustment in behavior to changes in norms. The findings do not support a stable preference for deviant behavior. Thus, our results suggest policy, intended to counteract social history and influence social norms, may be more effective than sanctions in combating deviant behavior. (2017): Justifying Deviant Behavior. The Role of Attributions and Moral Emotions. In: Journal of Business Ethics 141 (4), S. 779-795. DOI: 10.1007/s10551-016-3046-5
Abstract: We present two studies investigating the impact of causal perceptions and the moral emotions of anger, shame, and guilt on the justification of deviant workplace behavior. Study 1 tests our conceptual framework using a sample of undergraduate business students; Study 2 examines a population of practicing physicians. Results varied significantly between the two samples, suggesting that individual and contextual factors play an important role in shaping the perceptual and emotional processes by which individuals form reactions to undesirable affective workplace events. Implications of these findings for the study of ethics, emotions, and attributions, as well as for promoting ethical behavior, are discussed. (2017): The Relationship between Authoritarian Leadership and Employees' Deviant Workplace Behaviors. The Mediating Effects of Psychological Contract Violation and Organizational Cynicism. In: Frontiers in psychology 8. DOI: 10.3389/fpsyg.2017.00732
DOI: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28536550 Abstract: This study investigated the relationship between authoritarian leadership and employees' deviant workplace behaviors (DWB), as well as the mediating effects of psychological contract violation and organizational cynicism. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 391 manufacturing workers in a northern city of China. Structural equation modeling was performed to test the theory-driven models. The results showed that the relationship between authoritarian leadership and employees' DWB was mediated by organizational cynicism. Moreover, this relationship was also sequentially mediated by psychological contract violation and organizational cynicism. This research unveiled psychological contract violation and organizational cynicism as underlying mechanism that explained the link between authoritarian leadership and employees' DWB. zitiert von 6

(2016): Social and Legal Aspects of the Educational Support of Adolescents with Deviant Behavior. In: International Journal of Environmental and Science Education 11 (11), S. 4768-4781. Online verfügbar unter http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1114877.pdf
Abstract: The purpose of the study is to consider the problem of the organization of working with adolescents with deviant behavior through the development and implementation of their psychological and pedagogical support based on student-centered and system approaches. Holistic application of components of psychological and pedagogical support (diagnostic, developmental and correctional) we consider as an open system that interacts with the social environment. The authors determine that modern models of deviant behavior correlation ought to focus on creating the conditions that allow the child to build their own system of relations with the world, other people, himself and independently to overcome difficulties; moreover, they should include reflexive and analytical approach to the process and the result of psychological and pedagogical support. Experienced and experimental work on the implementation of psychological and pedagogical support of adolescents with deviant behavior in secondary school allowed us to make a conclusion about the effectiveness of using a specially designed program of psychological and pedagogical support of adolescent with deviant behavior with a view to its correction. (2014): Effects of Honor Codes and Classroom Justice on Students’ Deviant Behavior. In: Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences 112, S. 77-86. DOI: 10.1016/j.sbspro.2014.01.1141
Abstract: This study examined the influence of honor codes and classroom just ice on students’ deviant behavior. One hundred and two final year undergraduate students studying in various higher institutions of learning in Nigeria part icipated in the study, including Bayero University, Kano, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Kano State Polytechnic and Federal College of Education, Zaria. Pearson correlation analysis, multiple linear regression analysis, independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA analysis were conducted using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) to analyze the data. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that Honor codes had a significant negetive effect on students’ deviant behavior. On the contrary, the results showed that classroom justice had no significant effect on students’ deviant behavior. Furthermore, the findings of the study revealed a significant difference instudent deviant by gender, age categories and ethnicity. The managerial implications for the school administrators, lecturers and educational policy makers a rediscussed. zitiert von 2

(2013) : Genetic and environmental influences on aggressive and deviant behavior. In: Thomas, Christopher R.; Pope, Kayla (Hg.): The origins of antisocial behavior: A developmental perspective: New York, NY: Oxford University Press, S. 39-56
Abstract: Over the past three decades, and especially in the past 5 years, a great deal of effort has been dedicated to discovering genetic effects on a wide range of human disorders, diseases, and behaviors. In the field of behavioral genetics, there have been a tremendous number of studies examining genetic and environmental contributions to deviant behavior. Improvements in the methodology of twin and adoption studies have demonstrated the influence of genetics on mental disorders throughout the lifespan. This chapter describes different ways in which aggression, rule breaking, and deviant behaviors are defined and then discusses the many approaches to identifying genetic influences on these definitions. Following a brief introduction and literature review, the chapter defines common quantitative measures of deviant behavior, describes the development and subtypes of deviant behavior, and examines behavioral genetic studies of deviant behavior. Specifically, aggression and deviant behavior are examined from a perspective of twin and adoption studies (including gene by environment), as well as of familial variable studies (e.g., assortative mating). Finally, a brief review of future approaches and promising areas of research concludes this chapter. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved)

(2011): Does the measurement of peer deviance change the relationship between self-control and deviant behavior?. An analysis of friendship pairs. In: Journal of Criminal Justice 39 (6), S. 521-530. DOI: 10.1016/j.jcrimjus.2011.10.001
Abstract: Purpose: The measurement debate between social learning and self-control theories has predominantly focused on self-control, leaving an unexplored and equally important measurement controversy concerning the operationalization of the peer delinquency construct. This study addresses how self-control's relationship with deviant and criminal behavior changes when peer deviance is statistically controlled for using an indirect, perceptual measure or a self-report directly from a peer. Methods: Data from 796 friendship pairs are used to estimate a series of regression models that regress respondent deviance onto indirect and direct peer deviance and attitudinal and behavioral self-control measures while controlling for elements of the social bond and demographic characteristics. Results: When an indirect measure of peer delinquency is replaced with a direct measure from respondents’ friends, the relationships between self-control—attitudinal and behavioral measures—and deviance and criminal behavior are consistently larger. The use of a direct peer deviance measure does not prove the peer deviance-crime relationship spurious, but does substantially weaken the relationship between self-control and deviance and criminal behavior. Conclusions: The strength of the relationship between self-control and deviant/criminal behavior is contingent on how peer deviance is operationalized, regardless of how self-control is measured (attitudinally or behaviorally). (2010): Adolescents' internet morality and deviant behavior online.. In: Acta Psychologica Sinica 42 (10), S. 988-997
Abstract: Nowadays, the Internet has become an indispensable part of people's lives. Internet morality and ethics are becoming more and more an area of concern. Adolescents have become the biggest Internet user groups in China. When adolescents use the Internet, they engage in various kinds of deviant behaviors which have been of concern by to many researchers. But how adolescents' morality influence their deviant behavior constitutes a hitherto unstudied issue. The relationship between deviant online behaviors by adolescents and their moral performance deserves much more attention. The present study investigates adolescents' morality on the Internet, their Internet deviance, and the relation between Internet moral cognition, moral emotion, moral intention, and deviant behavior online. 496 adolescents from three provincial middle schools were asked to complete an Adolescent Internet Morality Questionnaire, and a Scale of Adolescent Internet Deviance, which assessed their Internet moral performance and deviant behavior online. The results indicated that (1) adolescents' morality towards Internet was positive, and the correlation between moral cognition, emotion and intention was positive; adolescents considered there should be some moral standards as principles of behaviors for Internet users, they disliked immoral actions in Internet Society, and they had positive intention online; (2) adolescents' deviant behavior on the Internet was not serious. However, the frequency of inflammatory and pornographic behaviors in boys online was significantly higher than that in girls. As the adolescents grew older, there was a reduction in inflammatory behaviors, including hostility, aggression, conflict and irritability; (3) Internet moral intention and cognition could significantly and negatively predict adolescents' deviance on the Internet. However, Internet emotion could not predict their deviance online. The results show that the adolescents Internet morality can predict moral behavior online: if adolescents maintain a more positive morality, they will engage in less deviant behavior online. This study indicates that in order to reduce adolescents' deviant behavior on the Internet, we should pay more attention to their moral education and to characteristics of age and gender. In: Kriminologisches Journal 39 (3), S. 162-184
