    Abstract: Discusses issues related to the use of technology by the severely handicapped, including (a) obstacles to the use of technological advances; (b) strategies for the selection, design, and use of adaptations and technological devices; and (c) incorporation of technology into planning by teams of therapists, teachers, and parents. Consideration is given to ethical and philosophical issues that guide the application of new technological advances. It is noted that these advances have the potential to enhance opportunities for integration into the community, skills that lead to independence, and personal choice.
